Dental Tourism And Other Offshore Ideas
I'd like to explore different channels to address the issue of allowing foreign trained dentists to practice. One plan I'd lilke to develop in this community is that of a Dental cruise in international waters. It would be great if we've looked at all the angles if we could actually make it happen.
The premise would be to gather a boat load of people in need of dental care. Put them on a boat for a few hours along with an team of foreign trained dentists. Have some level of services done.
One idea a friend gave us a while back was for migrant farm workers who had no healthcare. Poor Americans who have no health insurance would be another good candidate.
Dental Tourism
A related idea that I've seem some google hits on is the idea of dental tourism. The idea would be to take foreign trained dentists living in America but licensed in other countries to set up trips back home. We would line up cases where it would be cost effective to tour these other countries and have a few procedures performed. The value proposition would be to save money on dental procedures here and use that money saved to fund a vacation in a foreign land. I'll be collecting information on how much procedures in America cost so we can lay out the value proposition better.
This idea may not be for everyone. Melissa and I talked about how ex-patriots of those countries who are used to the less sophisticated facilities might make for better candidates for this offering. The risks would be in the litigious, high maintenance nature of some Americans which by the way is part of the reason for such high dental costs in America to begin with.
I'll keep refining this post but it's open to comments from registered users.
